kidney transplant is a surgery to place a healthy kidney from a donor into a recipient whose kidneys no longer function properly.

Permanent kidney failure can be termed as Chronic kidney failure. Kidney transplant has become one of the most efficient ways of treating this condition with majority of the patients also preferring the dialysis treatment option. Dialysis mus however not be considered as an alternative for kidney transplant. Dialysis enable the the kidney to perform some partial functions for some time. This is also called a stem cell transplant. Bone marrow transplant is a procedure that infuses healthy blood-forming stem cells into the body to replace bone marrow that’s not producing enough healthy blood cells.

Inside the bone marrow are stem cells responsible for the production of blood. The transplant of these cells is what is termed bone marroe transplant. Doners can be relatives or unrelated people who have tissue compatibiity with the recipient. Unlike in the past where stem cells were collected from bone marrow with the use of needles in an operation theater, bone marrow transplants today do not necessceary require a surgical procedure. Special medications are applied to tranfer the stem cells fromthe bone marrow by a method called “apheresis’’. This technique requires no surgical procedure.
